Motion Mountain - The Adventure of Physics - C. Schiller

The Motion Mountain Physics Text is a free and entertaining physics textbook -
with more than 1300 pages - for undergraduates and anybody interested in physics. The text, guaranteed to be
surprising and challenging on every page, is a guide through the adventure of physics.

How do objects and images move? How can animals move? What is motion?

How does a rainbow form? Is levitation possible? Do time machines exist? What does 'quantum' mean? What is the maximum force value found in nature? Is 'empty space' really empty? Is the universe a set? Which problems in physics are still unsolved?

The site publishes a free physics textbook that tells the story of how it became possible, after 2500 years
of exploration, to answer such questions. The book is written to be entertaining, surprising and challenging on
every page. With little mathematics, the text explores the most fascinating parts of mechanics, thermodynamics,
special and general relativity, electrodynamics, quantum theory and modern attempts at unification. The essence
of these fields is summarized in the most simple terms: it is shown how they are based on the notions of
minimum entropy, maximum speed, maximum force, minimum change of charge and minimum action.

The text explores the limits of time and space, and the wonders that can be discovered there. Written in
English, its over 1300 pages are provided for students, teachers, and for anybody who is interested in the
precise description of nature.

For each field of physics, the latest research results, the best images,
the most interesting physical puzzles and the most telling physical curiosities are presented.
More than 1600 challenges and over 500 illustrations and tables are included

Physics for Scientists and Engineers 6th ed. (College Text) - Serway and Jewett

Mechanics
P A R T 1
Liftoff of the space shuttle Columbia.
The tragic accident of February 1, 2003 that took
the lives of all seven astronauts aboard happened just before Volume 1 of this book went to
press.
The launch and operation of a space shuttle involves many fundamental principles of
classical mechanics, thermodynamics, and electromagnetism.
We study the principles of classical mechanics in Part 1 of this text, and apply these principles to rocket propulsion in Chapter 9.(NASA) 1 hysics, the most fundamental physical science, is concerned with the basic principles of the Universe.
It is the foundation upon which the other sciences—astronomy, biology, chemistry, and geology—are based.The beauty of physics lies in the simplicity of the fundamental physical theories and in the manner in which just a small number of fundamental concepts, equations, and assumptions can alter and expand our view of the world around us.
The study of physics can be divided into six main areas:
1.
classical mechanics, which is concerned with the motion of objects that are large
relative to atoms and move at speeds much slower than the speed of light;
2.
relativity, which is a theory describing objects moving at any speed, even speeds
approaching the speed of light;
3.
thermodynamics, which deals with heat, work, temperature, and the statistical behavior of systems with large numbers of particles;
4.
electromagnetism, which is concerned with electricity, magnetism, and electromagnetic fields;
5.
optics, which is the study of the behavior of light and its interaction with materials;
6.
quantum mechanics, a collection of theories connecting the behavior of matter at
the submicroscopic level to macroscopic observations.

The disciplines of mechanics and electromagnetism are basic to all other
branches of classical physics (developed before 1900) and modern physics
(c. 1900–present). The first part of this textbook deals with classical mechanics,
sometimes referred to as Newtonian mechanics or simply mechanics.
This is an appropriate place to begin an introductory text because many of the basic principles used to understand mechanical systems can later be used to describe such natural phenomena as waves and the transfer of energy by heat.
Furthermore, the laws of conservation of energy and momentum introduced in mechanics retain their importance in the fundamental theories of other areas of physics.

Today, classical mechanics is of vital importance to students from all disciplines.
It is highly successful in describing the motions of different objects, such as planets,
rockets, and baseballs. In the first part of the text, we shall describe the laws of classical mechanics and examine a wide range of phenomena that can be understood
with these fundamental ideas.

Radar Systems Analysis and Design Using MatLab - Mahafza Bassem R

Simulation is integral to the successful design of modern radar systems, and there is arguably no better software for this purpose than MATLAB. But software and the ability to use it does not guarantee success. One must also:ÖUnderstand radar operations and design philosophyÖKnow how to select the radar parameters to meet the design requirementsÖBe able to perform detailed trade-off analysis in the context of radar sizing, modes of operation, frequency selection, waveforms, and signal processingÖDevelop loss and error budgets associated with the design MATLAB Simulations for Radar Systems Design teaches all of this and provides the M-files and hands-on simulation experience needed to design and analyze radar systems. Part I forms a comprehensive description of radar systems, their analysis, and the design process. The authors' unique approach involves a design case study introduced in Chapter 1 and followed throughout the text. As the treatment progresses, the complexity increases and the case study requirements are adjusted accordingly. Part II presents a series of chapters-some authored by other experts in the field-on specialized radar topics important to a full understanding of radar systems design and analysis. A comprehensive set of MATLAB programs and functions support both parts of the book and are available for download from the CRC Press Web site.

Vibration Simulation Using MATLAB and ANSYS - Michael R Hatch

Product Description
Incorporating the use of industry-standard software to help with problem solving, Vibration Simulation Using MATLAB and ANSYS explores the subject of vibration from a fairly sophisticated, mathematical point of view. With a three degree-of-freedom system as a unifying theme, the author develops the associated equations of motion, then in each chapter includes both a closed-form solution and the MATLAB code for solving a problem. The book's unique approach makes it especially useful for engineers who lack experience with state space, and by enhancing their ability to communicate, it will prove useful to the mechanical and control engineering communities as well.

From the Back Cover
Transfer function form, zpk, state space, modal, and state space modal forms. For someone learning dynamics for the first time or for engineers who use the tools infrequently, the options available for constructing and representing dynamic mechanical models can be daunting. It is important to find a way to put them all in perspective and have them available for quick reference.

It is also important to have a strong understanding of modal analysis, from which the total response of a system can be constructed. Finally, it helps to know how to take the results of large dynamic finite element models and build small MATLAB® state space models.

Vibration Simulation Using MATLAB and ANSYS answers all those needs. Using a three degree-of-freedom (DOF) system as a unifying theme, it presents all the methods in one book. Each chapter provides the background theory to support its example, and each chapter contains both a closed form solution to the problem-shown in its entirety-and detailed MATLAB code for solving the problem.

Bridging the gap between introductory vibration courses and the techniques used in actual practice, Vibration Simulation Using MATLAB and ANSYS builds the foundation that allows you to simulate your own real-life problems.

Features

Demonstrates how to solve real problems, covering the vibration of systems from single DOF to finite element models with thousands of DOF

Illustrates the differences and similarities between different models by tracking a single example throughout the book

Includes the complete, closed-form solution and the MATLAB code used to solve each problem

Shows explicitly how to take the results of a realistic ANSYS finite element model and develop a small MATLAB state-space model

Provides a solid grounding in how individual modes of vibration combine for overall system response

Management Pocketbooks

Management PocketbooksUse pdf versions of over 75 of the popular Management Pocketbook series for a more bite-sized, graphical and fun approach to learning. Each contains useful hints, tips and quotes, delivered in a style which makes them suitable for all levels throughout the organisation.

Just wanted to say how useful I have found your pocketbooks over the past couple of years. They are so wide ranging, and contain extremely useful and very practical information. They definitely helped me get my last promotion and I often find myself referring to them when coming across situations where I need to 'think outside myself' and approach issues from a different point of view. Thanks for providing this extremely useful resource.
