Default Body Count - Complete Discography

Body Count - Complete Discography

Body Count - Body Count (1992)
VBR = 128 kbs

Body Count is the eponymous debut album of American heavy metal band Body Count. Released in 1992, the album material focuses on various social and political issues ranging from police brutality to drug abuse. The album presents a turning point in the career of Ice T, who co-wrote the album's songs with lead guitarist Ernie C and performed as the band's lead singer. Previously known only as a rapper, Ice T's work with the band helped establish a crossover audience with rock music fans. The album produced one single, "There Goes the Neighborhood".

Body Count is best known for the inclusion of the controversial song "Cop Killer," which was the subject of much criticism from various political figures, although many defended the song on the basis of the group's right to freedom of speech. Ice T eventually chose to remove the song from the album, although it continues to be performed live. Although the album received mixed reviews, it was ranked among the Village Voice's list of the 40 Best Albums of 1992, and is believed to have helped pave the way for the mainstream success of the rapcore genre, although the album itself does not feature rapping in any of its songs.

Body Count - Born Dead (1994)
VBR = 128 kbs

Born Dead is the second album released by Body Count. Among other tracks, the album features a cover of Billy Roberts' "Hey Joe," performed in the style of Jimi Hendrix' recording of the song, as originally featured on the Are You Experienced album. Body Count's cover of the song was first featured on the Hendrix tribute album Stone Free: A Tribute to Jimi Hendrix. The songs sound even darker and heavier than on the first album, and Ice T still chooses provocative themes. Here he doesn't talk about killing a police officer but deals with drugs ("Street Lobotomy"), sex ("Who Are You") and violence ("Necessary Evil") in an explicit way. The track "Born Dead" reflects the general mood expressed on the record, and it is the most constructed song.[original research?] And more significantly, it is about poverty and racism, (as in "Master Of Revenge"). In the liner notes, Ice T dedicates the album "to all the people of color throughout the entire world; Asian, Latino, Native American, Hawaiian, Italian, Indian, Persian, African, Aboriginal and any other nationality that white supremists would love to see born dead." Born Dead peaked at #74 on the Billboard 200.
