Installation - Download all Game Files
- Extract files from first part
- Copy "Westwood" folder found inside to C:\Program Files (result directory should be C:\Program Files\Westwood\RA2)
- Double click on "Registry Settings.reg" file found inside
- Click "Yes" to add to registry
- Play the game

- The game files found above are for Red Alert 2 version 1.006 (the latest version).
- They include both Allied and Soviet disks merged together with the game file patched so it does not require a CD and save files for all missions also included so all missions can be played with no disk trouble.
- The serial key is my own but can be changed to your own by editing the "Registry Settings.reg" file before it is applied or by manually editing Windows Registry at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Westwood\Red Alert 2" and changing the "Serial" string to yours without hashes/dashes (not necessary as a legit serial key has no effect any more).
- The files also include the latest Red Alert 2 LAN patch so the game can be played on LAN via UDP/IP (without the need of IPX installed which, from Vista onwards is no longer supported). This means you can now play LAN games without hassle using a regular network setup (first time you start the game please go to "Options --> Network" and under "Network Card" you will see a bunch of 0's. This is correct but for first time usage you need to manually click on drop down box and select the 0's option again, this needs to be done just once, leave everything else as is). Combined with a VPN (such as Hamachi) you can now play online too (note the play online features do not work as Westwood servers are no longer operating, use VPN and play as a LAN game).
- A minor fix has been made in the "ra2.ini" file which disables the VideoBackBuffer (by default the game was programmed to draw its frames by itself without using DirectDraw. Nowadays DirectDraw is invoked as well as the games own drawing system, which results in 2 drawing methods drawing over each other. Result: no improvement but significant slow down on some machines! The fix disables the games own drawing system so it relies on DirectDraw only. Result: no problems but slow downs gone!).
- Finally, the game allows you to set the maximum resolution under options as 1024x768. However by manually editing the "ra2.ini" file "ScreenWidth" and "ScreenHeight" options and "StretchMovies" to "yes" you can put any resolution you want. Change the settings under options menu in game to whatever you want before exiting the game and changing the resolutions manually and restart the game. Any further changes to options in game after manually editing "ra2.ini" will revert resolution back to 1024x768. Bare in mind that resolutions higher than 1024x768 may not be compatible, the game will work but there's a chance of many weird effects such as menu items being out of place etc since the game images were made for 1024x768 maximum resolution.
